Monster High Wednesday#2: Fright On!

REVIEW IN DESCRIPTION!

So this is the movie that got the dishonorable mention on WatchMojos Top 10 Worst TV Specials list huh? This is going to be fun.

Synopsis
When the board of deaducation decides to commission Monster High into merging with an all vampire and an all werewolf a man by the name of Administrator Van Hellscream (Voiced by:Cam Clarke. Who is the replacement voice of Heath Burns and also played Freddie in Nickelodeon's Back Of The Barnyard series.) arrives and decides to prevent the merge from succeeding with the help of his partner in crime Ms. Crabgrass (Voiced by: Wendee Lee who also voices Cleo's older sister Nefera de Nile and Lizzie Hearts in Ever After High.).Now it's up to Frankie and her friends to stop them and get Monster High back to normal. 

New Characters
Aside from the two I mentioned above we also get introduced to new characters such as the school's principal Headmistress Bloodgood (Voiced by: Laura Bailey), Draculaura's boyfriend and Clawdeen's brother Clawd Wolf (Originally voiced by: Yuri Lowenthal. But was later replaced by Ogie Banks III . Who played Dylan in the Bratz Movies.). Daughter of the Yeti Abbey Bominable (Voiced by: Erin Fitzgerald. Who is the voices Raven Queen in Ever After High and Nazz and May in Ed, Edd, n Eddy), As well as some minor characters such as Clawdeen's younger sister Howleen Wolf (Voiced by: America Young. Who is the voice of Toralei Stripes. Another character who appears in this movie.), Jackson Jeckyll/Holt Hyde, Operetta, and Gory (All three (Or four if you count Holt and Jackson as individual characters.) Voiced by: Cindy Robinson. Who voices Madeline Hatter in Ever After High and is the current voice of Amy Rose in the Sonic Franchise.) Clawd's Childhood friend Romulus (Voiced by: Cam Clarke.), and Gory's boyfriend Bram (Voiced by Yuri Lowenthal.)
Pros

• Having a cohesive plot
• Improvement on Animation.
• Good Intentions With it's Racism Metaphor

• Heavy-Handed Moral

• Sloppy Character Introductions

General Thoughts: While I can see why the special wouldn't appeal to everyone. I don't think Fright On was as bad as WatchMojo.com made it out to be. Mostly because it manages to improve on the flaws of New Ghoul @ School , The plot was actually engaging , the animation has shown signs of improvement, and I like how they used the Werewolf Vampire rivalry as a way of teaching kids about racisim and embracing others not like you. That being said there are some notable narrative hiccups such as the fact that there are SO MANY obvious references to the Twilight saga here. From the parody title Twihard 4: Abs Of Intrigue to the fact that the whole set up is based on the rivalry between Vampires and Werewolfs (Which from what I looked up is a concept that only started popping up in recent years.). Not to mention that while I like the good intentions the film has it can get really hammy with the characters emphasizing on how totally different both sides are to the point where the moral becomes PAINFULLY obvious. Also I kind of feel that some of the introductions for the new characters felt a bit sloppy (Especially for Clawd and Abbey. Who are one of the major characters of the movie.). I know they already made their debuts in the web series. But considering the fact that this aired on public television where practically ANYONE can watch it they should've at least give the audience a recap.But with that being said  Fright On is still a fun film. Cheesy, but fun. So I'd say if you're curious give it a watch.
